Integers

Provide examples of how integers are represented in real life.

Combine
1. Why is a negative combined with a negative a greater negative?

2. Why when you combine a negative and a positive is the answer sometimes negative and sometimes positive?

Multiply/Divide
3. Why when you multiply or divide a positive and a negative the answer is negative?

Remember to provide real life examples!

1. Negative and Negative= Negative
In my pool,I go underwater -4 ft. to go see If I can find my pencil that fell. I found it, but then I saw something shiny. It grabbed my curousity and I went -3 down. I am still underwater(-7).

2. Negative and Positive= Negative
I go to the store and see these cool shoes that cost $125. I didn't have any money with me so I used my credit card. The bill came and I was only able to pay $60. Now I have a debt of $65.

1.I check the temperature outside and it was 89 degrees. I went outside later to check how the temperature was and the temperature went down 5 degrees.

2.I went to the ocean and I went into the ocean -5. I saw something interesting and I went more into the ocean -6.

1. A ScubaDiver goes to the ocean to go see fishes. He went down -9ft. After a while, the scubadiver decides to go up, so he goes up 11ft. to get to his boat.

1.I went shopping with my credit card with only $6 on it.I bought a pair of shoes for $80, a shirt for $15, and a pair of pants for $20.

3.Everyday for 5 days it went up -4 degrees.

I went shopping and bought a $12 shirt, a $7 belt, a $56 shoes, and a $28 pair of pants. I didnt have the money to pay for is so I used my credit card when i already had $14 on it.

Sometimes when you combine a negative and a positive, it may turn out to be positive or negative. It ends up staying positive because you had a larger amount and it may start to be negative because you have more negative.

3.
Because its just adding negative or positive values.

If you combine a negative and a negative it becomes a bigger negative because if you are in a ocean and your 17 feet underwater and you go down 2 more feet youll end up being 19 feet under water

When you combine a negative with a positive you sometimes get a negative because the negative is bigger than the positive Exp: If you have seven dollars and you spend three youll still have four dollars left.
